Smart Driver Network

The INRIX Smart Driver Network dramatically advances the accuracy, coverage and quality of traffic information, collecting more data about traffic conditions than any solution on the market today. The Smart Driver Network acquires real-time and historical data from hundreds of public and private sources – including anonymous, real-time GPS probe data from over 1.6 million commercial and consumer vehicles and devices; toll tag data from systems such as California’s FasTrak system; and road occupancy and speed measurements from Departments of Transportation around the country. INRIX was an industry pioneer in intelligently combining all of these data sources into a commercial grade traffic service.

Innovative Technologies

INRIX innovations in predictive, historical and real-time traffic technologies and solutions enable our customers to introduce enhanced products and services using accurate time estimation and dynamic route guidance capabilities – all critical for the next generation of navigation solutions. INRIX’s breakthrough SpeedWavesTM technology improves the accuracy of traffic information on arterials, city streets and secondary roads by up to 70 percent compared to other approaches. Unlike other traffic services that are often inaccurate and unreliable due to speed measurements of vehicles that continually start and stop at traffic lights and stop signs, INRIX’s SpeedWaves accurately calculates profiles of speed distributions per road segment factoring in the impact that stop signs and other traffic control devices have on the billions of data points INRIX receives from its crowd-sourced Smart Driver network. This enables INRIX to use precise, real-time information from these vehicles to accurately report traffic information throughout the road network, resulting in a true picture of actual traffic conditions on secondary roadways. The result is not merely an average of information from separate vehicles traveling on the same roadway, but an analysis of data from individual vehicle reports that accurately determines real-time congestion across the road segment.

Further showcasing the company’s expertise in the mobile technology market, INRIX recently introduced INRIX Traffic! and INRIX Traffic! Pro, the first mobile applications specifically designed for helping drivers improve commutes to the places they go every day. The suite of free and premium apps for iPhone, Android and other platforms leverage INRIX real-time and predictive traffic information to help commuters always know the fastest route, best time to leave, drive time and ETA for any destination.
